James B. Daugherty

He was born in Metcalf April 28, 1912 the son of Benjamin and Ada Colleen Webb Daugherty. He graduated from Metcalf High School in 1930. He married Alberta Tutwiler on October 13,1934 and she preceded him in death on May 8, 1994. His parents and two brothers, Victor and Howard preceded him in death.

Mr. Daugherty spent most of his life in the Metcalf-Sidell area except during World War II, when he worked at the Republic Aviation Plant in Evansville, IN. assembling P-47 fighter planes. He managed the Sidell Lumber Company from 1946 until its closing in 1973. After retirement he and Alberta spent 11 years in Tucson, AZ, then moved to Paris and then finally to Springfield.

He is survived by his son, Bill (Mary) Daugherty of Springfield; grandson, Lee Daugherty (Barb) of Springfield; granddaughter Colleen (John) Hepner of Arlington Heights and two great grandsons Scott and Michael Hepner.

He always enjoyed watching sports, especially the Cards and Cubs baseball games.

Graveside services will be held 1:30 PM Friday May 25, 2012 in Hoult Cemetery,Chrisman with Rev . Teresa Shane officiating. Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association. Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
