

Born in Springfield, IL on 11-25-50 to Sherman and Annabelle Hayes Fickas
Married Bonnie Meredith on 4-19-69. Was preceded in death by both parents, sister Lana Fickas Melcher and brother Danny Ray Fickas.
Jim had worked for Quality Furniture, Sangamo Electric, Fifth Street Flower Shop, Dean's Shell Service Station and had done some roofing. He retired in 2002, after 35 years with the State of Illinois, Department of Management Services. Jim was owner/operator Jim’s Services specializing in heating/air conditioning.
Jim was an avid bowler, fisherman and hunter. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Jim also enjoyed playing cards and gambling trips to Las Vegas, Reno and local casinos. Jim was a founding member of the 23 CB Club, past officer of the Prop Club at Lake Springfield, past member of the Eagles, past officer of the Sons of American Legion and past officer of the Dean McGrew Select 8 Bowling League. Jim also enjoyed his time as a racing participant at Mid States Kart Club.
Jim is survived by his wife Bonnie, sons James Jr. (Rhonda) of Petersburg and Keith (Kelli) of Springfield. Six grandchildren: Jenna, Anthony James and Austin Hohimer all of Petersburg, Kourtney Skerston, Bradan and Morgan Fickas all of Springfield. Four sisters, Carolyn (Orville) Parnell, Shirley Louise (Dean, deceased) McGrew, Linda (Dennis) Morgan and Tammy (Rick) McLean all of Springfield. Three brothers, Sherman Eugene (Kathy), David (Carolyn) and John all of Springfield. Uncle John Hayes of Shelbyville, IL and several cousins, nieces & nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch & Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen where visitation will be Monday May 17, 2010 from 12 noon until time of services there at 1:00 pm Monday. Rev. Clint Cook and Rodney Fickas, Jim's nephew, will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family request that family and friends come in casual dress, it is what Jim would want.
