

James P. Fox, 78, of Springfield, died at 10:18 a.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at his home. Jim was born April 30, 1940 in Oak Park, the son of Pierce and Mary Maskey Fox. Jim graduated from Lanphier High School, Trinity College in Hartford, CT and from law school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He served in the U.S. Navy, attending Officers Candidate School in Rhode Island, and served in Vietnam as a Lieutenant JG lawyer. Jim worked as Assistant States Attorney, Public Defender, Associate Judge in Sangamon County, and Counsel for Kaiser in California. He was a dog lover, a sports fan, and a prolific reader. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Lane (Michael) of Springfield; nephew, Michael Lane (Brandy) and their kids, Avery and Noah, of Chatham; niece, Erica Cannon (Chris) and their kids, Laney and Sam, of Chesterfield, MO; aunt, Mildred Caldieraro; and his loyal dog, Trigger. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Private family burial will be held at a later date with Rev. Christopher House officiating.
