

Dr. James Edward Gorman, 80, of Chatham, passed away at 11:40pm on August 7, 2014 at St. John�s Hospice, Springfield, IL due to complications from multiple myeloma. Dr. Gorman was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Chatham, IL. He was born June 13, 1934 in Bradford, IL to John Peter and Gertrude Noyes Gorman, now deceased. He was predeceased by his brothers William, John and Peter. On August 2, 1958 he married Janet Jones Gorman in Bradford, IL. She survives along with sons Michael, Springfield; Patrick (Catherine), Carmel, IN; and Timothy, Ballwin, MO. His life was blessed by six grandchildren, Jake, Mary and Terrence and Joe, Joshua and Jackson. He attended the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi social fraternity. He was a 1958 graduate of Loyola University School of Dentistry in Chicago, where he joined Xi Psi Phi professional dental fraternity and the Loyola Dental School Choir. During his dental career, Dr. Gorman was active in civic affairs while he resided in Girard from 1959 - 1977. He was a member and president of the school board, member and president of the Chamber of Commerce and member and president of the Kiwanis Club. After moving to Chatham in 1977, Dr. Gorman was an active member of Glenwood Athletic Boosters, the Gridiron Club and Band Boosters. In his professional life, he was a member and president of the G.V. Black Dental Society. Dr. Gorman was also a member of the Illinois State Dental Society, the Chicago Dental Society, the American Dental Association, the American Association of Dental Examiners, and he was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. For 20 years, Dr. Gorman was a member of the examination teams for Central Regional Dental Testing (CRDTS) and the Northeast Regional Board (NERB). After retirement in 2008, he was honored by the Illinois State Dental Society for his 50 years as a practicing dentist; 49 of those years were spent in his general dentistry practice in Girard, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, August 11, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 700 East Spruce, Chatham and also from 9:00am � 10:00am before the funeral mass on Tuesday, August 12, with Father Dennis Kollross and Father John Nolan officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
