He was born on September 4, 1946, in Chicago, IL, the son of Curtis and Fannie (Vodisek) Hannah.
Jim was a devoted member of the Springfield community and St. Agnes Church. He honorably served in the United States Army as a Military Police officer and was a proud Vietnam War veteran. Jim dedicated many years of service to the State of Illinois, retiring from the Illinois Department of Revenue.
Jim cherished time spent with his family, particularly Laverne, his sons, and his beloved grandchildren. He took great pride in maintaining his home and found enjoyment and purpose in yardwork, a pastime that reflected his strong work ethic and appreciation for caring for what he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Fannie; and brother, Curtis Hannah.
James is survived by his wife, Laverne Hannah; sons, James (Jennifer) Hannah Jr., David Hannah, and Jason (Lexi) Hannah; grandchildren, Grace, Dominic, Olivia, Sofia, Noah, Giavanna, Harvey, and Levi; sister, Mary Cooper; sister-in-law Arlene Hannah; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Family will welcome friends on Friday, December 26th, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Butler Funeral Home - Springfield, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield, IL 62703 with a brief prayer service and blessing by Rev. Dan Bergbower at 7:00 pm.
There will be a private inurnment at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL.
Memorial contributions may be made to any veteran’s organization supporting those who served, in honor of Jim’s military service.
