

James C. Hayes, 80, of Searcy, AR, formerly of Springfield, IL died at 10:10 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016. James was born May 26, 1936 in Lincoln, IL, the son of Bertram and Henrietta Dunlevey Hayes. He married Sue A. Harrison on June 20, 1959 in Springfield, IL; she preceded him in death on January 10, 2013. She will be remembered during James' ceremonies and will be inurned with him at Camp Butler National Cemetery. James graduated from Lanphier High School and attended a meat cutting school in Toledo, OH. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman Recruit. He began working as a Meat Cutter for Castor's Grocery and then as a Shipping Clerk for Eastern Packaging. He also worked in the warehouses of both Pepsi-Cola and Coca-Cola. He retired from the print shop in St. John's Hospital. James was very proud of raising his children, as well as caring for 25 foster children. He was a member of Church of Christ, where he served as a Deacon and was involved in small groups. James enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, eagles, NASCAR and football. He was also preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Karen Winner; brother, Riley Hayes; and two sisters, Janera Dickerson and Ruth Creemens. He is survived by his son, James W. (wife, Kim) Hayes of Sherman, IL; three daughters, Jamie Winner of Searcy, AR, Dawn (husband, Doug) Winder of Monticello, IL and Alison (husband, Andy) Boosinger of Springfield, IL; fourteen grandchildren, Bobby (wife, Brittney) Winner of Searcy, AR, Sarah (husband, Douglas) Martin of Amarillo, TX, Caitlin (husband, Alex) Forcier of Searcy, AR, Brittny Winner of Cabot, AR, Douglas Winder, II of Arthur, IL, Danielle (husband, Jake) King of Monticello, IL, Andrea (husband, Steven) McGee of Decatur, IL, Somer (husband, Tim) Wiseheart of Springfield, IL, Corey (wife, Sierra) Boosinger of Springfield, IL, Shauna (husband, Chino) Arocho of Springfield, IL, Hunter and Chase Hayes, both of Springfield, IL, Tyler and Kenton Baskett, both of Sherman, IL; eleven great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Zachary Winner of Searcy, AR, Lainey, Evangeline and Kenley Martin of Amarillo, TX, Audra Winder of Arthur, IL, Graeson, Kensington and Remington King of Monticello, IL, Talia McGee of Decatur, IL, and Andrew Wiseheart of Springfield, IL; sister, Linda Vandiver of Springfield, IL; many nieces and nephews; three brothers-in-law, Richard Harrison of Springfield, IL, Dennis (wife, Lois) Harrison of Sherman, IL and Gary (wife, Kathy) Harrison of Dawson, IL; three sisters-in-law, Marilyn Johnson of Springfield, IL, Phyllis Harrison of Dawson, IL and Becky (husband, Pete) Ochs of Springfield, IL. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the visitation. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 3, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL. Memorial Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Pastor Rex Crossland and Doug Winder officiating. Inurnment of James and Sue will follow at the Camp Butler National Cemetery Columbarium. Military honors will be provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
