

James Louis ''Jay'' Kelly, 88, of Springfield, passed away at 10:05 p.m., Saturday, June 2, 2001 at St. John's Hospital. James was born December 21, 1912, the son of James Arthur and Marie Berry Kelly in St. Louis. He married Madeline Kelly February 9, 1937 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and she preceded him in death. Mr. Kelly was Part Owner and Operator of Kelly Brothers Supermarket. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was a past member of St. Vincent DePaul Society the Elk's Club and the Knights of Columbus #364. He was preceded in death by his wife: Madeline Kelly; one son: William Arthur Kelly; five brothers: Walter, Arthur, Robert, Jerome and Vincent ''Ben'' Kelly and one sister: Harriet Kelly. He is survived by one son: Larry (wife, Gail) Kelly of Springfield; two daughters: Judy (husband, Chuck) Smith of Sherman, Kathy Ander of Hillsborough NC; two brothers: George and John Kelly both of Springfield; one sister: Edna Freeman of Springfield; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 5-7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 7, 2001 with a wake service at 5:00 p.m. Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 8, 2001 at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Very Revs. John A. Renken V.G. and Kenneth C. Steffen celebrating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church 1720 E.
