Jane Matthew Brooks

She was born on November 8, 1939, in Chatham, IL, the daughter of C. Everett and Irene (Plummer) Matthew.

Jane was raised in Glenarm and worked as a registered nurse at Springfield Memorial Hospital for 42 years, from which she retired. She loved to spend time with her grandkids and cooking family dinners, and enjoyed traveling and playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Steven Brooks; son-in-law, Don Peyton; sister, Patricia Ridge; sister-in-law, Barbara Matthew; and grandson, Christopher Blissett.

Jane is survived by her daughters, Debbie Peyton and Kathy (Steve) Roberts, both of Springfield; brother, Jack Matthew of Springfield; grandchildren, Tonya (Corey) Lash, Heather Peyton, Amber (Brandon) Smith, Lindsey (Anthony) Harrison, Corey Roberts, Crystal Blissett, and Stevie (Amy) Roberts; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn (Brad) McCormick, Zachary, Nicholas, Peyton, Braelyn, Kaimen, Keslynn, Crimson, Hunter, Colten, Chance, Kane, Kashton, Abel, Carter, Wyatt, Aiden, Morgan, and Madison; great-great-grandchildren, Brycen, Aria, and Hayes; multiple bonus grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews.

Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, followed by the Ceremony at 12:00 p.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Sugar Creek Cemetery.
