Janet Lynn Orlando

Janet Lynn Orlando, 57, of Springfield, passed away at 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at St. John's Hospital. Janet was born March 30, 1958 in South Bend, IN, the daughter of James E. and R. Joan Getzinger McMeel, Jr., M.D. She married Michael T. Orlando on September 1, 1979 in South Bend, IN. Janet attended Saint Mary's College in South Bend, IN, and graduated from the University of Illinois at Springfield with a B.S. in Business. Janet, and her husband, owned and operated several Subway restaurants in Springfield. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. She was an accomplished aerobics instructor for more than 30 years. She loved the Muni and was an SHG musical patron. She was very devoted to her children and her family traditions. She enjoyed vacationing in Hilton Head, S.C. and reading murder mysteries. She was preceded in death by her mother. She is survived by her husband, Michael Orlando; one son, Sean Orlando of Santa Fe, NM; two daughters, Jessica Orlando of Chicago and Kimberly Orlando who attends Saint Mary's College in South Bend, IN; her father, James E. McMeel Jr. M.D. of Mishawaka, IN; two sisters, Kathleen M. McMeel of South Bend, IN and Sharon Anne (spouse, Robert Tuite) McMeel of Arlington, TX; one brother, James E. (spouse, Jeanne) McMeel, III of Carmel, IN; two nieces; and one nephew. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield. Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Rev. Robert Jallas, celebrant. Graveside Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015 at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, 375 W. Cleveland Rd., Granger, IN with Msgr. Michael Heinz officiating.
