

Janet was born April 9, 1942, in Springfield, the daughter of James D. and Aileen M. (Lewis) Simpson. She married the love of her life, John Maurice Stieren, on September 3, 1960, in Springfield. Janet met John when she was three years old and he was six. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2019.
Janet was a lifelong resident of Springfield, attended St. Joseph’s Grade School, and graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1960. Over the years, she worked at Illinois Bell Telephone Company and Memorial Medical Center as a switchboard operator. Janet retired from Memorial Medical Center after 25 years of service. She enjoyed visiting at luncheons with her Ursuline Academy classmates. Janet also enjoyed flowers, being outdoors, and was especially fond of the Christmas season.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Janet is survived by her son, James “Jim” Stieren of Springfield; daughters, Jolene Stieren of Springfield, Julie (Robert) Taylor of Carthage, TN, and Johnna (Kevin) McCloughan of Springfield; grandchildren, Crystal (Kris) Scroggins, Jamie and Nick Stieren, Jennifer and Stephanie Redding, Bobby Taylor, Brooke Taylor, Brittany (Kenny) Smith, Lindsay (Nathaniel) Oehlkers, and Zach (Gabby), Kayla, and Adam McCloughan; twelve great-grandchildren with one on the way; sister, Lana Fasig of Springfield; two nieces; three nephews; and several cousins.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at Butler Funeral Home—Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A Funeral Ceremony will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dominic Vahling officiating. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be limited capacity.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
