

She was born in Springfield on April 24, 1946, the daughter of George and Della (Giacomini) Maurer. Janet married John Anthony Zibutis on November 5, 1966, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Sherman.
Janet graduated from Lanphier High School and earned her associate’s degree from Lincoln Land Community College. She went on to work for the State of Illinois as an accountant where she retired after 37 years. Janet attended St. Aloysius in Springfield with her family before moving to Florida where she was a faithful member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Eaglewood and volunteered at their Catholic Women’s Club. She was also a member of St. Louise de Marillac, Elks Lodge, and Moose Lodge. In her spare time, Janet enjoyed going to the beach, visiting the pool, reading a good book, traveling, cooking meals for her family, and watching her granddaughter’s sporting events. Janet was an extremely active person who enjoyed keeping busy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, John.
Janet is survived by her son, John A. (Rianne) Zibutis, III, of Sherman; granddaughter, Anna Zibutis; siblings, Joanne (Ed) Golab of Sherman and their children, Ed (Nina) Golab, III, Lisa (Rick) Fix, Tanya Golab, John Golab, and their children, and George (Elaine) Maurer of North Port; and brother-in-law, Bill (late, Nancy) Zibutis of Sherman and their children, Trey (Amelia) Zibutis, and their children.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2000 E. Sangamon Ave., Springfield, with Rev. George Nellikunnel officiating.
Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Williamsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
