Janice was born on August 8, 1935, in Saint Louis, MO, the daughter of Charles and Florence (Schaeffer) Carter.
From an early age, Janice’s gifts were evident. At just four years old, she played the accordion on the radio, an early glimpse of the love of music that would remain a constant and comforting presence throughout her life. On January 26, 1985, she married Lyle B. Shaw. In her roles as a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother, Janice was deeply beloved, someone whose presence brought steadiness, warmth, and genuine consideration to family life. Janice will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection for a life marked by steady devotion, quiet honesty, and thoughtful care for others.
Janice worked 14 years as the office manager of Manpower Temp Services, Springfield. She also served for 10 years as the personnel assistant with St. Francis convent, offering her time with a selfless spirit and a kind heart, always attentive to what was needed and willing to do it without fanfare.
She also gave of herself beyond her home, singing in the choir and volunteering with the Senior Olympics, acts that reflected her generous nature and her enduring respect for community. Janice found joy in simple, meaningful pleasures: fishing with Lyle, all music, avid reading, and computer work. Whether immersed in a book, engaged at the computer, or listening to music, her curiosity and thoughtfulness were always close at hand.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Florence; and husband Lyle.
She is survived by her son, Keith (Valerie) Dunlap; daughter, Melinda L. (Deborah Lingner) Dunlap; stepson, Kevin B. (Shelly) Shaw; stepdaughters, Pamela S. Shaw and Beverly Harper; two grandchildren, Anna (Adam) Powell and Katherine (Louis) Nightingale; and three great grandchildren, Emma and Sara Keck, and Anwyn Nightingale.
