

Jay Michael Lauterbach, 77, of Springfield, passed away at 1:10 p.m. on Sunday, September 2, 2018, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Jay was born on March 10, 1941, in Springfield, the son of Michael Hayes and Lois Naomi Neff Lauterbach. He married Jane M. Wyzard on June 22, 1968, at Church of the Little Flower in Springfield. Jay graduated from Cathedral Boys High School in 1959 and earned his bachelors degree in Business at SIU Carbondale. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Guard. Jay was the owner and operator of Lauterbach Tire and Auto Service. He enjoyed being a part of the community and was involved in many organizations, including Knights of Columbus Council 364 as a past Grand Knight, past president of Little Flower Mens Club, and past president of the IL State Tire Dealers Association. He also served for 20 years as Team Captain for Friend in Deed, as past president of Seminole Drive Mens Club, and as a member and past president of the Lake Press Club. Jay was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Gary Farris. He is survived by his wife, Jane M. Lauterbach of Springfield; four sons, Rob Farris of Springfield, Matt (wife, Diane) Lauterbach of Mechanicsburg, Brian (wife, Michelle) Lauterbach of Chatham, and Mark (wife, Amy) Lauterbach of Springfield; grandchildren, Michael Lauterbach, Kyle Lauterbach, Kailey (husband, Zack) Weaver, Kourtney Lauterbach, Ryan Lauterbach (USMC), Kathleen Lauterbach, and Thomas Lauterbach; three siblings, Dennis (wife, JoAnn) Lauterbach of Traverse City, MI, Sue Ellyn (husband, Ron) Untiedt of Arlington Heights, and Carole Anne (husband, Roger) Wittmann of Maryville; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2018, at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield. Visitation will begin with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County followed by a prayer service. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Church of the Little Flower with Rev. Allen Kemme, celebrant.
