

Jean was born on April 4, 1929, in Springfield, the daughter of John M. and Kathryn (Mallon) Melvin. She married Albert G. Berg in 1954; he preceded her in death on October 14, 1984. She then married Walter J. Simhauser in 1988; he preceded her in death on January 16, 2015.
Jean was a member of St. Agnes Parish where she was a eucharistic minister.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John “Bill” W. Melvin; sister, Carol Sue Melvin; sister-in-law, June McCabe; two nieces; one nephew; one great-nephew; five uncles; and three aunts.
She is survived by her son, Brian Berg of New Berlin; daughters, Kathy (Richard) Crider of Maumelle, AR, Karen (Carl) Schmidt of Kirkwood, MO, and Melanie Berg of Kirkwood, MO; step-son, Val Simhauser of Springfield; grandchildren, Ali Berg, Anna Schmidt, Nate Schmidt, Kyle Crider, and Adam Crider; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Kathryn Cullen of Edwardsville.
Memorial Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield, with Rev. Daniel Bergbower officiating.
Interment took place at Camp Butler National Cemetery earlier this year.
