

Born on September 4, 1938, in Centralia, IL, Joan was the beloved daughter of the late Louis and Irene (Daum) Niermann. She grew up in Okawville, Illinois, where she attended school, and later worked at the Original Springs Hotel. She later resided in Centralia, where she was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ and dedicated over 35 years of her career to Hollywood Candy Company before retiring.
Joan had a deep love for sports, passionately following Wisconsin and Illinois college basketball teams, as well as the St. Louis Cardinals. Her grandson Joel’s participation in Pleasant Plains athletics brought her immense pride, and she frequently attended his games. She was especially grateful to Pleasant Plains for making these games accessible for her. Joan also loved traveling, with her favorite vacation spot being Branson, MO, where she made many cherished memories with her grandchildren. An enthusiastic Elvis fan, she delighted in attending his shows. She was deeply grateful for the compassionate care and support she received throughout her life from all who tended to her needs. Above all, Joan cherished her family. She loved reminiscing over family photos and sharing stories with her granddaughter Meredith.
Joan is survived by her son, Christopher Niermann of Springfield; her granddaughter, Meredith Niermann of Sherman, IL; and her grandson, Joel Niermann of Oxford, MS. She is also survived by four siblings: Sandy Wade of Odin, IL; LaDonne (Ernest) Dyer of Bolingbrook, IL; Sharon Warden of Centralia, IL; and Thomas Niermann of Centralia, IL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Louis Niermann, Jr., and Kenneth Niermann; and a sister, Betty Boester.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, Springfield. Private family services have been held. A memorial service will be held at Loami United Methodist Church, 112 Coley St., Loami, IL, on Saturday, August 31, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Donald Peck officiating, and visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Bradfordton Athletic Center, 1200 N. Bradfordton Rd., Springfield, starting at 12 p.m.
