

She was born on June 11, 1958, in Jacksonville, IL, the daughter of Donald W. and Kathleen M. (Brightman) Hoagland.
Joanne graduated from Ashland High School, earned her bachelor’s degree from University of Illinois in Champaign, and studied for two years at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in Newcastle, England. She went on to work as a librarian with University of Illinois, for 32 years. Joanne enjoyed playing and watching tennis, reading, watching movies, doing trivia night throughout the Springfield area at various restaurants, and traveling around the world (Paris, England, Australia, Amsterdam). She was known as caring, loving, and being very knowledgeable. Her family was very important to her.
She was preceded in death by her mother; and brother, Donald “Fred” Frederick Hoagland.
Joanne is survived by her father, Donald Hoagland of Chatham; nieces, Jennifer (Chad Wellenreiter) Hoagland Fernandes and Rachel Hoagland, both of Jacksonville, IL; great-niece and great-nephew, Madison Dee Dorwart and Cameron Dean Fernandes, both of Jacksonville, IL; special friends, Stuart Bailey of London, England, and Charles Good of Springfield; and cousin, Larry Christenson of Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony and Visitation: Funeral Ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Visitation will follow until 5:00 p.m.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, following ceremonies.
A private Burial will take place at Old Salem Cemetery.
