

Jocelyn H. “Sonny” DeFreitas, 77, passed away early on Friday, December 30, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on October 3, 1934, the son of John and Mary Josephine (Nunes) DeFreitas. Jocelyn married Rosaline Crabb in Springfield, in 1953. He was an active in the Roofers Local 112 union for over 30 years, holding numerous different positions all the way up to vice president. He was an avid Cardinals fan, enjoyed watching NASCAR cheering for Mark Martin, and cheering for the Miami Dolphins. Left to share in his memory are his children; John (Susan) DeFreitas, Steve (Catherine) DeFreitas, Janet (Roger) Eddington, Cathleen (Greg) Handley, Joe (Renee) DeFreitas, sister Julia McIntyre, all of the Springfield area, 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rosaline, and Brother-in-Law Ted McIntyre. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen St. Springfield, IL 62703. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pastor Clint Cook of Real Life Baptist Church will conduct the services. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
