John C. Brown, 86, of Springfield, died at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2012 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. John was born October 22, 1925 in Salem, the son of Noel and Pearl Halbert Brown. John was a talented mechanic, specializing in automatic transmissions. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy as a radar technician and completed two tours during WWII. He was a very good man with a great sense of humor who enjoyed hunting, fishing and trap shooting. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Irene Brown; infant son, John Wayne Brown; three step-sons; two step-daughters; and one sister, Evelyn Sanders. He is survived by two sons, Ken (wife, Sheila) Brown of Girard and Raymond Brown of Chatham; one daughter, Sandy Gilmore of Middletown; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Department of Defense and the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County, with Scott Brindley officiating.
