
John ''Joe'' Chestnut, 56, of Springfield, died at 5:48 p.m. Saturday April 7th, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born September 22nd, 1944 in Springfield, the son of John G. & Mary C. Basso Chestnut. He married Jeanette Johnson November 3rd, 1977 in Springfield, Illinois. Mr. Chestnut was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. He worked for the State Journal Register in the newspaper mailing department for several years. He was a US Army veteran and served in Vietnam. He was preceded in death by a daughter-Michelle Lynn Chestnut and his father-John G. Chestnut. Surviving is his wife- Jeannette Chestnut of Springfield; sons- Mike Chestnut and Chris Chestnut-both of Springfield; daughters- Donna Chestnut and Mari Brown-both of Springfield; mother- Mary Chestnut of Springfield; 4 grandchildren- Morgan Brown, Kendyl Brown, Kyle Chestnut, and Brooke Chestnut; brothers- Tom Chestnut of Orlando, Florida and Mike Chestnut of Vienna, Illinois; sisters- Rosemary Brown and Kay Brown-both of Paris, TN; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-8:00 p.m. Tuesday April 10th, 2001 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 South 6th Street in Springfield. There will be a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday April 11, 2001 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, the Rev. Donald Meehling celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
