John W. Courtney Jr., 95, of Riverton, passed away on September 2, 2026 at Springfield Memorial Hospital surrounded bby his family. He was born on November 1, 1930 in Springfield to John W. Courtney Sr., and Ethel Nellie South. John married Carol Jean Nichols on May 14, 1954 and she preceded him in death on February 8, 2014.
Mr. Courtney is survived by four children: Daniel (Denise) Courtney, Jeannie (Tony) Albertin, Mark (Elaine) Courtney and John W. (Peyton) Courtney III, thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son Robert Courtney, seven sisters and two brothers.
John graduated from Feitshans High School and he was a Marine who served during the Korean Conflict. He worked as an inspector for Fiat Allis for over thirty years and he worked as a machinist for BUNN for over fifteen years. He loved spending time with his family and going fishing.
Cremation rites were accorded.
