

John L. Davsko, 65, of Springfield, died at 8:23 a.m. on Friday, April 6, 2012 at St. John's Hospital after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. John was born August 28, 1946 in Springfield, the son of John Leo and Helen Verbais Davsko. He married Susan Sheppard on October 23, 1976 in Springfield. John was a graduate of St. Aloysius elementary school, Griffin High School and St. Louis University. His accomplishments in baseball and basketball resulted in his induction into the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. He began his career with Pillsbury Mills in Springfield and moved on to become a plant manager in Joplin, MO. John later became the COO for Bama Pie in Tulsa, OK. He also worked as plant director for Chef Solutions in Thorofare, NJ. He was a member of the Army National Guard for 6 years. John's many interests included sports, politics, history, geography, science, working crossword puzzles and listening to music. He loved to play golf; he always said his handicap was his golf clubs. He thoroughly enjoyed his tenure on the Sangamon County Board. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Sue Davsko of Springfield; two sons, Adam Davsko of Tulsa, OK and Justin (wife, Briana) Davsko of Springfield; mother, Helen Davsko of Springfield; two brothers, Lance (wife, Marilyn) Davsko and Larry (wife, Rita) Davsko, all of Springfield; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Additional visitation will be held from 10:00-10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home. Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Deacon Dave Erdmann officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. In honor of John, donations made to the ALS Association would be greatly appreciated. The family hopes you can join them at the ALS walk on June 16, 2012 at Washington Park.
