

John "Jack" Gillespie, 78, of Springfield, died at 3:45 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at St. John's Hospice. Jack was born January 30, 1934 in Springfield, the son of Charles and Helen Winch Gillespie. He married Nancy Gilson on November 20, 1954 in Springfield; and she preceded him in death on July 2, 1997. Jack attended Springfield High School and served his country in the United States Marines from 1951-1954. He worked as a bartender for 35 years. He was a member of the Golden Gloves Boxers for five years, the Eagles Club, and attended Cathedral Church of the Immaculate Conception. Jack enjoyed boxing, playing golf, cards, but most of all his grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nancy Murphy; and brother, Chuck Gillespie. He is survived by his children, Robert (Laura) Gillespie, Rex (Diana) Gillespie, Raymond (Kimberly) Gillespie, and Rita Nutaut, all of Springfield, Richard (Patricia) Gillespie of Bristow, VA, Rhonda (Jim) Zimmerman of Hot Springs Village, AR, Rebecca (Andy) Johnson of Virden, and Daniel Gilmore of Springfield; seventeen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Robert (Phyllis) Gillespie of Lincoln, George Gillespie of Moline, and Jim (Mona) Gillespie of Chesterfield, MO. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2012 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence, Springfield with Rev.
