
John C. Harwood, 71, of Springfield died at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born October 28, 1930, the son of Vivian and Faye Shelby Harwood. He married Bonita ''Bonnie'' Adams on July 30, 1973 in Springfield. Mr. Harwood served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He had been the district manager for Dairy Queen in Illinois. He also co-owned & operated Bonnie's Lounge for 18 years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, a forty-four year member of St. Paul's Masonic Lodge 500, a former member of AMVETS and had bowled in several bowling leagues. Mr. Harwood loved playing longboard shuffleboard as well as auto racing and was co-owner of a modified sprint car, he also loved the Cardinals and he found that he enjoyed doing velvet paintings after doing one that his grandson didn't want to do. He was preceded in death by one great grandson. He is survived by his wife, Bonita ''Bonnie'' Harwood of Springfield; a son, Michael T. ''Mike'' Harwood of Pekin; a daughter, Cheryl ''Sherry'' Hamilton of Springfield; a brother, Don S. (wife, Nadine) Harwood of Springfield; a sister, Mary (husband, Wendell) Wheeler of Springfield; a granddaughter, Nichole ''Nikki'' (husband, Chris) Dyer of Springfield; a great grandson, John Dakota Dyer, a great granddaughter, Michaela Nicole Dyer and several nieces & nephews. The family of John C. Harwwod is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 So. 6th Street, where friends may call from 4-7:00 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, with Rev. Mary Ellen Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Memorial Medical Cancer Center, 1 Memorial Plaza, Springfield, IL 62702-9907 or St. Paul's Masonic Lodge 500.
