

John was born January 22, 1921, the son of John and Hazel (Rees) Hood. He later married Dorothy Hicks on June 1, 1946 in Springfield, she survives.
John served proudly in the United States Navy as a Naval Aviator during WWII. He later worked at the Sangamo Electric Company as the Manager of Employee Relations. He retired in 1978. He was very active in the Springfield community. He was an elder at the Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield, where he was a member. He loved to read and was an avid Cubs fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. John volunteered or was a part of these organizations through out his life, Junior Achievement, Association of Commerce and Industry, Boys Club of America, Sangamo Surf Club, Memorial Hospital Red Coats, Senior Services of Central Illinois, Elder at Third Presbyterian Church, Third Presbyterian Church Men's Club, Member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion 32, Springfield Personnel Association, Capital City Railroad Relocation Board, Springfield Management Club, Board of the Sangamo Electric Company Credit Union and a Republican Precinct Committeeman.
John is survived by his wife and their children, John P. Hood (Susan) of Montgomery, IL, Cynthia Crego (John) of Lebanon, TN, David E. Hood ( Sue Collins, companion) of Springfield and Pamela Noyes of Warrenville, IL., grandchildren Katie McLaughlin (Thornton) of Lebanon, TN, Kristin Sanderson (Andrew) of Lebanon, TN and Cody Noyes of Warrenville, IL., great-grand child Jack McLaughlin of Lebanon, TN., nephew Harry Miller (Diane) of Ft. Smith, AR, great-nephew Jack Miller and several great nieces Amanda Miller, Emily Montgomery, Brianna Miller, and Lindsay Miller.
John is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Dorothea Miller.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield or Senior Services of Central Illinois.
Visitation will be Friday, May 20 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E Allen Springfield. Cody Noyes, grandson of John Hood will play an acoustical guitar solo at 5:00 PM. Funeral Services will be at Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield on Saturday, May 21 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Brent Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.
