

John "Johnny" Lesko, 91, of Springfield, died at 11:55 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Villa East in Sherman. John was born November 23, 1920 in Springfield, the son of Joseph and Katherine Uhas Lesko. He married Shirley A. Alley on September 27 1947 in Chicago. She preceded him in death on February 25, 2005. John served his country in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded two bronze stars and the good conduct medal. He was a member of the Iron Workers Union Local #46, where he spent four decades as an iron worker. He was also a member of the Northenders VFW Post 10302 and a precinct committeeman. John enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and vegetable gardening. He is also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jolene Lesko; and ten brothers and sisters. He is survived by his three children, John N. Lesko, Frank J. (Kimberly) Lesko and Anglee (Roger) Stickel, all of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Rita Lesko of Springfield; five grandchildren, John Michael Lesko, Jason (Melanie) Lesko, Marissa Lesko, Joseph Lesko, and William Lesko; three great-grandchildren, Rachel, Rebekah, and Raegan Lesko; siblings, Vera Valatkas, Margaret Kunz, and Frank Lesko; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2119 N. 20th St., Springfield with Rev. Tom Donovan, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
