

John C. Morse, 58, of Springfield, passed away at 8:35 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002 at St. John’s Hospital Emergency Room. John was born October 16, 1943 the son of John Henton and Helen Louise Anderson Morse in Peru, IN. Mr. Morse graduated from Springfield High School in 1961 and DePauw University in Green Castle, Indiana in 1965. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1969-1971 stationed in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and was a University Admissions Counselor at several universities including John’s Hopkins, Case Western and Beloit College. He later worked as a Track Coach at Lincoln Land Community College and for the State of Illinois. John ran cross-country and track in high school and college. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Pasfield Park Men’s Club where he held several offices. He also belonged to several golf leagues. He was preceded in death by his father June 19, 1986. He is survived by his mother: Helen L. Morse of Springfield; one brother: David L. (wife, Carol) Morse of Springfield; two nephews: Devin Morse and Jason (wife, Sandi) Morse, both of Indianapolis, IN; several cousins and his special friend: Barbara Miller of Springfield. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 5-7:00 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2002. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Deacon Martha Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
