

John F. Mulrooney, 78, of Springfield, died at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 25, 2015 at St. John's Hospital. John was born January 17, 1937 in Springfield, the son of John and Mary Moran Mulrooney. John was a graduate of Springfield College and Sangamon State and worked at Franklin Life Insurance for 39 years. He started out as a Correspondent and then moved on to Data Processing, Director of Agent Services, and then back to Information Services before retiring in 1994. John was a member of Church of the Little Flower and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent a great portion of his retirement at his fishing cabin in Northern Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Timothy and Dehen Mulrooney; and one brother, Joe Mulrooney. He is survived by three sons, Michael (wife, Kathy) Mulrooney of Batavia, Brian Mulrooney of Springfield, and Shaun (wife, Joanne) Mulrooney of Murphysboro; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to services. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. The memorial gathering will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m.
