

John R. “Sonny” Sommer, 67, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Springfield, died on July 21, 2006. John was born November 2, 1938 in Springfield the son of Frank P. and Eleanor L. Ervin Sommer. John attended Pleasant Plains High School and was self-employed as an insurance agent and a sales agent for Haverty’s Furniture in Sarasota until his retirement in 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Carl J. and Robert F. Sommer. He is survived by his wife: Marilyn J. McKee Sommer of Sarasota, FL; five daughters: Neysa A. Jones of Bradenton, FL, Julene E. (husband, Jeff) Picco of Springfield, Kristine L. (husband, Terry) Briggs of Tampa, FL, Kimberly A. Sommer of Sarasota, FL, and Denise A. (husband, Gary) Getman of North Port, FL; two sons: Duane R. Sommer of Sarasota, FL, and Shawn R. (wife, Ellen) Sommer of Tampa, FL; four sisters: Mary L. (husband, Roger) Mitchell of Sun City Center, FL, Rita (husband, Jim) Goldsby, and Sharon (husband, Bob) Metz both of Peoria, and Barbara (husband, Mark) Root of Chatham; two brothers: Ken (wife, Mary K.) Sommer and Ronald Sommer both of Springfield; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held and cremation was accorded by Toale Brothers Funeral Home in Sarasota, FL.
