John E. Staudt

John was born on June 16, 1948, in Queens, New York, the son of Eugene J. Staudt and Margaret C. (Ledwith) Staudt. He was the second of eleven children.

He graduated from Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, New York, in 1966 and from Saint Leo University in St. Leo, Florida, in 1970. He subsequently earned his MBA from Iona University.

In 1971, John married Mary Elizabeth Dillon. They shared more than 50 years of marriage until her death in 2022. Together they raised three sons, Christopher, Brian, and Sean.

John enjoyed a distinguished 47-year career in banking. He began in New York at Security National Bank, later Chemical Bank. In 1979, he joined Springfield Marine Bank, where over the next 24 years, he held leadership positions with the bank and its successors, including President of Marine Corporation and President and CEO of Bank One, Springfield. In 2005, he joined Town and Country Bank in Springfield, serving as Vice Chairman during his tenure before retiring in 2018.

Throughout his years in Springfield, John was active in the community and served on numerous boards and finance committees, including those of the Hospital Sisters Health System, the Diocese of Springfield, and Blessed Sacrament Parish. A devoted parishioner of Blessed Sacrament since 1979, his faith and involvement in the parish remained an important part of his life.

John was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with his large extended family. He had longtime interests in golf, aviation, and carpentry.

He is survived by his sons, Christopher (Veronica) Staudt of Homer Glen, IL, and Brian (Carlyn) Staudt of Kensington, MD; grandchildren, Victoria, Valerie, Sophie, Michael, and Cecilia; siblings, Susan (Joseph Riker) Staudt of New Canaan, CT, Margaret Sotil of New Rochelle, NY, James (Kathy) Staudt of Larchmont, NY, Thomas (Jean) Staudt of Mamaroneck, NY, Mary Ellen (Harold Spitzfaden) Staudt of Fairfield, CT, Gerard Staudt of Norwalk, CT, Joseph (Lauren) Staudt of Point Lookout, NY, Anne Marie Staudt (Stephen Cowherd) of Westport, CT, and Eugene (Mary) Staudt of Milford, CT; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; son, Sean; parents, Eugene and Margaret Staudt; and sister, Kathleen Nickels.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home- Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, beginning with a vigil service.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield, with Fr. Jeff Grant.
