John R. Summers

John R. Summers, 94, of Springfield, passed away on December 20, 2022 at his residence. He was born on January 10, 1928 in Lynnville, Illinois to John F. Summers and Ruth A. Patterson. John married Darlene E. Nunes in Jacksonville, Illinois on August 28, 1954 and she preceded him in death on January 14, 2018.

Mr. Summers is survived by his daughters: Diane Summers of Chatham, Joni (Robert) Ryan of Williamsville, Shari (companion Gary Britz) Bearden of Divernon, Lori (James) Richards of Divernon, Lisa Linehan of Springfield and Mindy (companion Scott Pillsbury) Summers of Springfield, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one sister Janet Vossberg of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his son in law Mark A. Bearden in 2011.

John worked as a printer for the Jacksonville Journal Courier and for the State Journal Register retiring after thirty five years of service. He was a member of the International Typographical Union Local 177 and Laurel United Methodist Church. He volunteered at Meals on Wheels and enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday December 29, 2022 at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 Koke Mill Road, with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 10:00am until the time of service Thursday at Bisch West.
