

Jo was born August 28, 1928, in Staunton, IL, the daughter of James and Martha Haenel Cerentano. She married William “Bill” Tallman and they later divorced. Jo then married Leslie Nimmo on April 18, 1975, in FL; he preceded her in death on January 1, 2003.
Jo grew up in Staunton and then lived with her grandparents during her formative years. She graduated from Staunton High School in 1946 and was employed as an executive secretary at Horace Mann for many years. Jo was a volunteer at the Illinois State Museum for several years and she and Les would spend their winters in Sun City Center, FL where she was a member of the Sun City Center Racquet Club and Bridge Club. After Les’ death, Jo began spending her winters in Mesa, AZ, and was a member of the Mesa Regal Tennis Club, where she was a player well into her 80s and then a scorekeeper. Jo was also a computer lab monitor and would usher for live shows in Mesa. She enjoyed going to the Muni to see live shows, golfing, playing tennis, and reading. Jo and Les loved to travel the world and they were accomplished ballroom dancers. She was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan much to her family’s dismay.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James Jr. and Anthony Cerentano; sister, Mary Ann Kozak; stepson, Bruce Nimmo; and stepdaughter, Mimi Nimmo Bernard.
Jo is survived by her children, Toni (Jerry) Johnson of Rochester and William T. (Karen) Tallman of Springfield; stepchildren, Price (Monica) Nimmo of Little Rock, AR, Niles (Mary Jane) Nimmo of Nashville, TN, Kevin Nimmo of Nashville, TN, and Niki Nimmo of Kalamazoo, MI; grandchildren, Nicki (Derek) Madison of O’Fallon, MO, Jennifer (Chris) Stecher of Chesterfield, MO, and Mathew (Kate) Tallman of St. Louis, MO; great-grandchildren, Andrew (Morgan) Madison of St. Louis, MO, Nickolas (Octavia)Madison of Istanbul, Turkey, and Joseph and Cameron Stecher, both of Chesterfield, MO; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dominic Rankin officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
