Juanita Mae Monroe

She was born on May 13, 1939 in Springfield, the daughter of the late Rollin and Opal Mae (Trader) Burris. She married Harold S. Monroe on September 1, 1956 and he survives.

Mrs. Monroe worked as a telecommunications specialist at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, retiring in 2008. She was a member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church in Springfield.

Besides her husband Harold, she is survived by 3 children, Harold “Rusty” (wife Debbie) Monroe, Jr., of Rochester, IL, Staci D. (husband Dale) Garlits of Springfield, and Kara (husband Scott) Eldridge of Auburn, IL, 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and a brother Norman (wife Marcy) Burris of Springfield.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dale G. Monroe.

Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, Springfield. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 from 4 pm until 8 pm at Elliott Avenue Baptist Church, 501 W. Elliott Ave, Springfield. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 11 am at the church, with Rev. Roger Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield.
