

Judge Richard J. "Dick" Cadagin, 72, of Springfield, died at 2:40 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at St. John's Hospital. Richard was born June 23, 1935 in Springfield, the son of Francis A. and Gertrude Mary O'Leary Cadagin. Richard was a graduate of Cathedral Boys High School, St. Ambrose College in Davenport, IA and St. Louis University, School of Law. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1954 to 1962. In 1969 Richard was elected to the Sangamon County Board. He was appointed Associate Circuit Judge in 1970, elected Circuit Judge in 1978 and retained in 1984 and 1990. In 1992 and 1993 he was Chief Circuit Judge. He retired in July 1995. Richard was a member and past president of the American Business Club, member and past president of the Sangamon County Bar Association, member and past president of Peter F. Rossiter Sons and Daughters of Erin, a member of VFW #755 and a member of Cathedral Parish. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard "Rick" Cadagin in 1995; and brothers, Edward, Robert and John Cadagin. He is survived by one daughter, Laura (husband, Daniel C.) Lanterman of Springfield; one son, John Cadagin of Springfield; three grandchildren, Tyler, Kelsey and Elyse Lanterman all of Springfield; two brothers, Jim Cadagin of Pekin and Judge Don (wife, Kathy) Cadagin of Springfield; three sisters, Mary (husband, Marvin) Farmer of Springfield, Rita (husband, Ed) Norris of Springfield and Patricia (husband, Larry) Snodgrass of Batavia; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence Ave., Springfield with Rev. Peter C. Harman celebrant. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.
