Karen (Bergen) Atkinson, 74, of Springfield, passed away at 12:57 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. Karen was born on April 3, 1943 in Springfield, the daughter of Horace L. and Virginia M. Bergen. She married Billy F. Atkinson on September 22, 2010 in Jacksonville. Karen was the Director of Environmental Services at the Dirksen House for 30 years. She was a member of Bootkickers. She was preceded in death by her son, Anthony William Standrige; her parents; and an aunt, Rose James. She is survived by her husband, Billy Atkinson of Springfield; one granddaughter, Sondra (husband, Jason) Danner of Texas; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Cheryl (husband, Jim) Cary of Springfield; and several cousins. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Graveside Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Chaplain Tim Hayworth officiating.
