

Karen Nadine Underwood, 69, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center. Karen was born on April 14, 1942 in Springfield, the daughter of Robert E. and Estelle Brown Craig, Sr. She married Jack Underwood on August 19, 1961 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Karen graduated from Springfield High School in 1960. She once owned her own floral shop, Flower's by Karen and also worked for Craig's Flower and Landscaping. She previously worked at Sears in their maintenance and warranty department and also City, Water, Light and Power. She was a member of the Social Concern Committee, the GIFT program and the Pastoral Council, all at Church of the Little Flower. She was also a member of the PTCA at Hazel Dell School and the Postal Club. She was known for her great love for her grandchildren and being an amazing cook and avid Cubs fan. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Underwood; her parents; and a brother, Robert E. Craig, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Jack; her children, Steve (wife, Rose) Underwood of Williamsville, Mark (wife, Melissa) Underwood, Pam Brodt, and Brian Underwood, all of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Zachary, Samantha, Lauren and Tyler Underwood, Emily Brodt, Nicholas Underwood, and Jacob, Isabel, and Thomas Brodt; adopted daughter, Dieu Dang and her family; sister Deanna of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Concelebrated Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. John Ossola and Rev. Henry Schmidt, celebrants.
