

Kathleen H. Maher, 67, of Springfield, died at 8:05 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Concordia Village. Kathleen was born December 31, 1949 in Newark, NJ, the daughter of Edward F. and Mary Mitchell Heck. She married Dr. Chauncey Maher III on March 18, 1972 in Elizabeth, NJ. He preceded her in death on December 24, 2016. Kathleen attended St. Michael's grammar school and graduated from Benedictine Academy in New Jersey. She obtained her bachelor's degree in History from Webster College, and her master's degree in Education as a reading specialist from Western Illinois University. She worked for the Lab School of Washington, Edmund Burke School in Washington D.C., Evers & Company in D.C., RE/MAX Professionals of Springfield, Springfield Ball Charter School, and Springfield High School. Kathleen raised four wonderful children. She abounded with energy. She loved dancing, singing, walking, laughing, music, movies, reading, traveling, good food, Chevy Chase Blvd., and the Jersey Shore. Kathleen excelled at throwing memorable parties and shopping. Her perseverance and grace fighting PSP inspired everyone who knew her, even those she had recently met. She is survived by her daughter, Emily (Alex) Rabin of Springfield; sons, Chauncey (Erin) Maher, IV of Carlisle, PA and twins, Elliot Maher of Normal and Sean Maher of Edwardsville; grandchildren, Jacob, Reese, and Chauncey, V; siblings, Mary Lou (Greg) Farmer of Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ, Robert (Judy) Heck of Middletown, NJ, Suzanne (Gary) Roeben of Point Pleasant, NJ, and Edward (Connie) Heck of Brick, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Ceremony: 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.
