She was born in Eldorado, Illinois, on October 30, 1928, the daughter of Leland and Hallie (Austin) Boyd.
Kathryn graduated from Norris City High School in 1946 and later earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Illinois State University. Prior to working as a grade school teacher for District 186, she spent two years in Ankara, Turkey, working for the American Education Association. She traveled by boat to join her husband, Faruk Mutman, who was completing his military service as a translator. She raised her four children in Springfield and was active in the community. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and an elder. After she retired from teaching, she worked as a caregiver for Bethesda Lutheran and fully retired, shortly before reaching her eightieth birthday. In her spare time, she loved to read and share what she learned with her family.
She was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong and independent woman, filled with gratitude and optimism. She frequently stated, “Every day is a gift.” She was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Robert A. Boyd.
Kathryn is survived by her son, Danyal Mutman of Elk Grove, CA; daughters, Suzan Boyd, Sara Mutman, and Sandra (Patrick) Mutman Doyle, all of Springfield; grandchildren, Gavyn and Stephanie Mutman, Ethan and Liam Doyle, and Avery Hanson; and great-grandchildren, David, Waverly, and Skyler.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to services.
