

Kenneth Berryman, 79, of Chatham, IL, peacefully passed away at 12:35 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his family. Kenneth was born on October 24, 1939, in Springfield, IL, the son of Orville K. and Kathryn Sanders Berryman. He married Andrea Bugaieski, on December 27, 1967, in Christopher, IL. After graduating from Christopher Community High School in 1957, Kenneth proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps where he was a guard at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela from 1957-1962. Once honorably discharged from the service, he lived briefly in Puerto Rico. Upon returning to the U.S., he attended Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia and then earned a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in Journalism, graduating in 1972. After college, he ventured into a career as a pharmaceutical representative for Novartis Pharmaceuticals retiring after 25 years. During his pharmaceutical career, he received several awards for his skills in salesmanship. Following retirement from Novartis, he pursued his passion for teaching classes in philosophy, ethics and world religion at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL. Kenneth proudly served as a member of the Chatham American Legion, the Chatham Chamber of Commerce and was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing golf with friends, reading insatiably, listening to symphony and opera music, watching sci-fi movies and teaching classes. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Andrea Berryman; two daughters, Brooke (husband Ryan Wright) Berryman of Oceanside, CA and Brynn (husband Ryan Brown) Berryman of Leicester, NC; two grandchildren, Holden Lee and Tanner Reece Wright, both of Oceanside, CA; one brother, Gene Berryman, of Huntsville, AL; close cousins, Teddy Whitten of OFalllon, MO and Mary Ann Harrell of Ft. Meyer, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, IL. Funeral Ceremony: 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Staab Polk Memorial Home with Rev. Mary E. Zupansic officiating. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Department of Defense and the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
