

Kenneth "Rick" Boroweic, 60, of Springfield, died at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at St. John's Hospital. Rick was born August 23, 1955 in Denver, CO. He married Sandra L. Young on September 19, 1981 in Springfield. He became a father on July 29, 1987 with the birth of his son, Daniel. Rick proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam. He attained the status of Military Sergeant-E5, and served on the USS Enterprise during the Evacuation of Saigon Operation "Frequent Wind." Rick volunteered in the community and was a renowned problem solver. He enjoyed computers, being outdoors, and fiercely loved his family and his dog. He was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Boroweic. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Boroweic; one son, Daniel Boroweic; mom, Pat McFarland; sister, Dee Martinez; two brothers, Paul and Mark Kruse; sister-in-law, Susan Hazlewood; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. An additional visitation will be held from 10:30-11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home. Funeral Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Pastor Theodore Gall officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
