

Kenneth Franklin Woodard, 85, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday February 1, 2014 at his home. He was born on December 14, 1928 in Newton, Illinois, the son of the late Frank J. and Florence Adkins Woodard. He married Janice Brackett on May 12, 1960 in Springfield.
Mr. Woodard is survived by his wife Janice, one son Adam Woodard of Bloomington, Illinois, two daughters: Eve (Jeffry) Healy of Plainfield, Indiana, and Kahla (Andy) Zander of Springfield, four grandchildren: Aaron (Shannelle) Healy, Joshua (Angela) Healy, Laura (Jonathon) Stanfield and James Zander, eight great-grandchildren, one sister Shirley Campbell of Springfield, one brother-in-law Harold Pfeiffer, one nephew Roger (Melissa) Pfeiffer and one niece Amber (Mark) Chandler. He was preceded in death by his two sisters: Carolyn Emig and Janet Pfeiffer.
Mr. Woodard was a US Marine Veteran who served as a machine gunner with the 2nd Marine Division. After his discharge, Mr. Woodard was employed by the State of Illinois for forty six years. He worked for the Illinois Secretary of State’s office, Department of Mental Health and retired from the Department of Children and Family Services where he was a Payroll Supervisor. Ken, “Kenny” or “Woody” as he was know by his friends was a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan who enjoyed gardening, cooking, and mushroom hunting. He was a member of Westside Christian Church and the Navy Club Sangamon Ship 32 for fifty five years where he was a past commander.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday February 7, 2014 at Calvary Temple Christian Center, 1730 West Jefferson Street, with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4-7pm Thursday at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street, and one hour prior to the funeral Service Friday at the Church.
