Kevin Gerard McGlennon

Kevin Gerard McGlennon, 67, of Sherman, died at 8:25 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Kevin was born on October 17, 1956, in Springfield, the son of Thomas and Dorothy (Kinsley) McGlennon.

He graduated from Southeast High School in 1974, and retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation in 2013, after more than 28 years of service.

Kevin was an accomplished musician, proficient in playing the piano, saxophone, harmonica, and flute. Kevin was a member of local area bands for several years, including Music Scene, Out of the Woods, and Jack Fog. He also served in the music ministry at Real Life Church, of which he was a devoted member.

Kevin had a wonderful sense of humor, never knew a stranger, and was generous and giving of his time and attention to anyone in need. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, playing music, and coin collecting. Kevin “Papa” most loved spending time with his grandchildren, Elliott, Jack, and Amelia. He volunteered his time in several areas including Alcoholics Anonymous, where he conducted weekly meetings within the prison system and agreed to sponsor anyone who reached out to him. He also traveled to Honduras, assisting in the building of an orphanage.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tommy McGlennon; sister, Ruth McGlennon; brother-in-law, Darrell Barger; and sister-in-law, Joyce "Dee" McGlennon.

He is survived by his loving wife, Laurie McGlennon; son, Jonathan (Kara) McGlennon; and three grandchildren, Elliott, Jack, and Amelia; siblings, Terry (Anna) McGlennon of Dexter, KY, Mary Pat (Tim) Barnes of Owasso, OK, Colleen Wise of Sherman, and Karen (Rick) Woodrum of Springfield; 14 nieces and nephews; and 26 great-nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made out to Real Life Church.

The family will be hosting Celebration of Life at Real Life Church, 2701 Hermitage Road, Springfield, IL 62703 on Friday, November 29, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
