He was born in Springfield on June 29, 1941, the son of Harold A. and Rose (Gibson) McAfee. Larry married Margaret “Kay” Kohl in Springfield on May 8, 1965.
Larry started working with his father when he was only 16 years old and went on to work as an equipment operator for almost 50 years with Operating Engineers Local 965. He enjoyed collecting train sets and performing repairs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Ted Treece.
Larry is survived by his wife, Kay; daughter, Michelle McAfee of Springfield; grandson, Kohl P. McAfee; and sister, Linda Treece of Waverly.
Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends at 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home- Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, with Very Rev. Daniel Bergbower officiating.
Interment will follow at Farmington Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
