He was born in Pleasant Plains, September 14, 1934 the son of Lee L. and Merub L. (Moyer) Wells Sr. He married Patricia Ann “Patsy” Looper in 1955 at the Farmingdale Presbyterian Church and she preceded him in death in 2018.
Lee enlisted and served in the United States Air Force and then for 37 years with the Illinois National Guard, 183rd Tactical Fighter Group at Capital Airport in Springfield as an Air Technician until his retirement as Lt. Colonel on December 31, 1989.
After retirement, he operated Bud’s Handyman Service. He was a member of the National Guard Association both United States and Illinois chapters. He was a past member of the ELKS Club. Lee and his wife were devoted and active members of the Farmingdale Presbyterian Church for many years.
He is survived by his son, Ronald (Ann) Wells, of Copley, OH, his daughter, Pamela (Craig) Jensen of Orange Beach, AL, five grandchildren: Christine (Tyler) Staab of Springfield, Marianne (Tony) Capoverdi of Oviedo, FL, David (Rene) Wells of North Canton, OH, Steven Jensen of Birmingham, AL, and Amy Jensen of Orlando, FL, and seven great grandchildren: Madelyn and Isabelle Staab, Callie and Anthony Capoverdi, and Keith, Leanne and Cody Wells. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are in the care of Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. Springfield. The family will greet friends and family on Sunday, March 5, 2023, from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 am Monday, March 6, 2023, at the funeral home with Rev. David R. Nicholson and Rev. J. Steven Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors by the United States Air Force and the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions to the Farmingdale Presbyterian Church.
