Lela A. Green

Lela was born September 13, 1931 in Springfield, the daughter of Edward I. and Anna Juris Cartwright. She married Walter Green on October 19, 1951; they later divorced.

Lela graduated from Lanphier High School, class of 1950. She worked at International Shoe Factory in Springfield, and Illinois Bell Telephone. Lela was a life-long member of the Springfield community, and was a member of the Basket Guild. She enjoyed quilting, basket weaving, sewing, crocheting, and gardening. Lela was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and enjoyed Illini Basketball. Lela and her daughter Linda shared the same birthday. On their last birthday when Lela turned 85, Linda turned 58.

Lela was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Elmer and Edward Cartwright; and sister, Eileen McNear.

She is survived by her daughters, Becky (Edward) Cobau of Springfield and Linda (partner Susan Martin) Green of Petersburg; grandchildren, Lauren Cobau of Groton, MA, David Cobau, and Lisa (Bradley) Homeier both of Springfield; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Johnson, and Braeden and Lucas Homeier; sister, Nancy (Wayne) Jahn of Garden Prairie; sisters-in-law, Fritzi and Diane Cartwright both of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery following the ceremony.
