

He was born in Ironton, OH, May 31, 1926, the son of George and Bertha (Sherman) Hacker. He enlisted into the United States Navy, June 1944 and served during W.W. II, honorably discharged in June 1946.
After his military service, Leon worked as a plant engineer for the original Armco Steel Company which later became Contech Engineered Solutions. He retired from there in 1991 as a consulting engineer.
Leon was a member of St. Paul’s Lodge #500 AF&AM, a 32-degree mason, Springfield Scottish Rite, Springfield York Rite, Springfield Royal Arch, Ansar Shrine, and was a past Potentate.
Leon married Geraldine “Gerry” L. Fritz in Milwaukee, WI September 14, 1946, and she preceded him in death January 2, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his son, Mark T. Hacker in 1970, a sister, Mildred Osborne and a brother, Harold C. Hacker.
Surviving are his two daughters; Sharon Phillips and Jacklyn Barton both of Springfield, three granddaughters: Noel (Steve) Hauer of Edinburg, IL, Callie (Aaron) Moore of Troy, IL and Markie (Josh) Thompson of Springfield, seven great grandchildren and his sister-in-law, Joy Hansen of Milwaukee, WI. He has several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with his wishes, Cremation Rites will be accorded, and private family services will be held. Inurnment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight or the Animal Protective League.
