Leslie was born on October 27, 1954, in Springfield, the son of Wayne Amos Shephard, Sr. and Margaret O. Wright. He married Catherine Gahan on July 22, 1994, in Springfield.
Leslie owned and operated L.A. Shephard Construction. He was also an independent contractor and worked for many years as a long-haul truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Kit (Catherine) Shephard of Springfield; five children, Steve Shephard of Chicago, Gary Brown of Springfield, Sommer (husband, Brett) Bowman of Morton, IL, Aaron (wife, Alyssa) Shephard of Destin, FL, and David Brown of Springfield; four grandchildren and ten adoptive grandchildren; and five siblings, Nathan (wife, Theresa) Shephard, Darla Krebbs, Wayne Shephard, Jr., Cheryl (husband, Gene) Beshears, and Karen (husband, Bobby) Powers, all of Springfield.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
The family is being served by Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.
