Lillian D. Kennedy

Lillian D. Kennedy, 89, of Springfield, passed away at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Lillian was born November 11, 1924 in Springfield, the daughter of James S. and Mary Idalee Whalen Ray. She married Eugene C. Kennedy on June 10, 1944 at St. Aloysius in Springfield; he preceded her in death on November 30, 2006. Lillian was a graduate of Ursuline Academy, Springfield Junior College, and then earned a degree from the University of Illinois at Springfield. She was employed as a US Bankruptcy Clerk for the Central District of IL for 42 years until her retirement in 1986. Lillian was a member of St. Aloysius Church Women's Council, Woman's Club of Springfield, St. Louise deMarillac Guild, and served on the Ursuline Academy Alumni Board. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two infant sons, Michael and Dennis Kennedy; five sisters, C. Ruby Ray, Gladys Ray, Mary V. Whisker, Eloise Hill, and Elsie Quinn Albright; and two brothers, James Irvin and Joseph Herman Ray. She is survived by her two sons, Timothy P. (wife, Jean) Kennedy of Springfield and Kevin C. (wife, Mary) Kennedy of Danville; one daughter, Barbara J. (husband, Burt) Fairchild of Orlando, FL; seven grandchildren, Scott, Brian, David, Nick (wife, Ashley) and Jacob Kennedy, Stefanie Federico, and Jean Fairchild; sister, Charlotte Theobald of Green Lake, WI; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2119 N. 20th St., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. David S.
