She was born on June 26, 1929 in Decatur, the daughter of Gerald and Luella (Turner) Taylor. Lois married John H. Hirstein on September 15, 1947 in Decatur. He preceded her in death on November 29, 2018.
Lois graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1947. She started her career at Warner Motor Company until she devoted her time to raise her family. Lois then returned to work and retired from Equifax Company after 20 years. Following her retirement, she later worked at Catherine’s Dress Shop for 10 years. Lois was a member of Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church for over 70 years, and was also a past member of the Eagles 437 Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and baking, needle work, crafts, attending the Muni Opera, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, and adult coloring books.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and granddaughter, Jeri Ann Hirstein.
Lois is survived by her sons, Jerry (Karen) Hirstein and Tom Hirstein, both of Springfield; daughter, Lisa (Rick) Hirstein-Hughes of Springfield; grandchild, Angela (John) Hirstein; great-grandchildren, Zackery, Addison, and Alexandra; and great-great-grandchildren, Ava and Gage.
Visitation: Family to receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, with Pastor Meredith Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
