
Lola Lucas, 61, of Springfield, passed away Saturday evening, April 25, 2015 at her residence. Lola was born January 5, 1954 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Louis and Pauline Malin Lucas. She married Kevin Brown on October 12, 1991 in Hillsboro, IL. She was the Muscular Dystrophy National Association poster child from 1961-1963. Lola graduated from McCluer High School, UMSL with a bachelor's degree in English, Lindenwood University with an MBA with a specialty in Human Resources, and later obtained an additional master's degree in Management from Webster University in St. Louis. She was an employee of the IL Department of Employment Security as a Research Economist for 23 years. She was an adjunct faculty member at UIS for a number of years. Lola was a writer of essays and poetry. One thing Lola took great pride in was penning "At Home In The Park", a collection of essays reflecting life in the Enos Park neighborhood. Lola was a member of Springfield Bicycle Club and Springfield Poets and Writers, and a supporter of various animal rescue groups. She was a voracious reader and writer, and drank coffee liberally. Lola was known for offering career counseling to everyone she met. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Kevin Brown of Springfield; her sister, Lorna (husband, Craig) Frahm of St. Charles, MO; beloved aunt, Kay King; cousin, Shannon King; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved poodles. The family will host a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Lake Springfield Beach House, 101 Beach House Circle, Springfield. Friends and family are encouraged to come and share happy memories. Lola loved pot-lucks, so if convenient, please bring a dish to share.
