Lorraine Marie Byrne Brock

Lorraine Marie Byrne Brock of Springfield, IL died at St. John's Hospital on January 11, 2008 at the age of 85. She was born on October 21, 1922 in Blair, Nebraska to Alice Bucklin Byrne and Charles Gilbert Byrne. Lorraine attended St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Omaha, NE and graduated in 1944 with a degree in nursing. She married Robert Odell Brock on December 27, 1947 in Omaha, NE. Lorraine and Robert lived and worked in St. Louis, MO for many years, moving briefly to Omaha, NE and settling in Springfield, IL in October 1961. Lorraine worked as a nurse for many years for Physicians Group's pediatrician, Dr. John Holland and later for Dr. Pardo. Upon retiring from her nursing career, Lorraine continued an active life attending mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Legion of Mary. She was a Samaritan volunteer with St. John's Hospice and worked part-time as Portress for Ursuline Convent. Lorraine played Bunco for over 40 years. She enjoyed reading, sewing and ceramics. She will be remembered for her wonderful cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert in 1992 and her sister, Doris. Lorraine is the mother of David Michael Brock (Theresa) of Pontiac, IL, Robert Dennis Brock(Sandy) of Springfield, IL, Kathleen Marie Shore of Springfield, IL, Mary Eileen Stephens (Dayton) of Peoria, IL, Thomas Gerard Brock of Springfield, IL, James Patrick Brock (Pam) of St. Joseph, IL, Margaret Mary Jacques (Renaldo) of Peoria, IL, Theresa Marie Hergenrother (Ron) of Springfield, IL and Tina Marie Gladden (Ray) of Springfield, IL. She is the grandmother of 21 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She is the sister of Dorothy Finn of Macomb, IL and Rosalie Schafer (Patrick) of Harlingen, TX. Family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. Funeral mass will be at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga, V.F. celebrant.
